A doctor who once treated injured workers in New York has been ordered released from prison because of the coronavirus epidemic.
A federal judge on Wednesday ordered the release of former Staten Island internal medicine physician Nkanga Nkanga, who pleaded guilty in October to illegally distributing oxycodone, an opioid-based pain medication.
The order notes that Nkanga's release, which was opposed by federal prosecutors until this week, is necessary because of the doctor's age and health problems.
