Senate Panel Passes Bill that Would Reduce NFL Player Benefits

A committee of the Louisiana state Senate voted 4-3 on Thursday to approve a bill backed by the New Orleans Saints that would reduce workers' compensation benefits for players injured during the off-season, the Associated Press reported. House Bill 1069 by Chris Broadwater, R-Hammond, would change the method of calculating average weekly wages so that only the wages a worker was earning at the time of injury could be used to calculate his average weekly wage, which is used to determine the amount of permanent disability benefits.
