A bill that would put asbestos claims back under workers' compensation coverage has been introduced in the Pennsylvania Senate, one year after a similar bill that pitted insurers against employers died in committee.
Senate Bill 143, introduced again this year by Sen. Kim Ward, R-Greensburg, is something the business community has demanded since a court ruling six years ago opened employers up to tort suits on long-tail asbestos diseases. But insurers have objected because the bill could mean retroactive claims without retroactive premiums to pay for them.
