Trailer Manufacturer Faces $30,000 in OSHA Fines

Truck trailer manufacturer Great Dane Limited Partnership faces $30,000 in proposed penalties from the federal Occupational Safety and Health Administration for exposing employees to hexavalent chromium at its Danville facility.Investigators found that one welder was exposed to more than 4.6 times the permissible level of the chemical, which is known to cause cancer and problems in the respiratory system, kidneys, liver, skin and eyes.The company failed to implement feasible engineering controls and work practices to cut employee exposure to the chemical, investigators found.
