A national association of state lawmakers next month will take a close look at how pharmacy benefit managers operate, and one possible outcome is model legislation that would give oversight of PBMs to state insurance commissioners.
The National Council of Insurance Legislators, or NCOIL, will tackle the topic during its spring meeting in Atlanta on March 2-4.
NCOIL’s president, Arkansas Sen. Jason Rapert, plans to introduce legislation in his state this year to create PBM oversight through the insurance commissioner’s office.
