States without a workers’ comp medical fee schedule paid more for a “market basket” of medical professional services commonly used to treat injured workers than did fee-schedule states, according to a new report from the Workers Compensation Research Institute.
Wisconsin, one of seven states that did not have a fee schedule as of last year, paid the highest amount for the array of professional services, at 158% more than the median for the 35 states included in the study. New Hampshire and Indiana ranked second and third-highest in the study.
