The Washington State Legislature sent the governor a bill that would revise the schedule used to calculate total disability benefits for unmarried workers.
Currently, a worker who is not married and has no children is entitled to receive 60% of preinjury wages in temporary total or permanent total disability benefits. The percentage of wages increases by two percentage points for each child, so an unmarried worker with one child would receive 62% and would max out at 70% for an unmarried worker with five or more children.
