Haslam Signs Construction Industry Misclassification Bill

Tennessee Gov. Bill Haslam has signed legislation that mandates fines against construction companies that misclassify workers or low-ball payrolls to reduce workers' compensation premiums.Haslam last Thursday signed Senate Bill 833, which creates a new schedule of civil penalties for construction providers that misclassify workers as independent contractors or place them in job classifications with lower risks to reduce workers' compensation premiums.
