Purdue to Hold Grain-Handling Safety Workshops

Purdue University has scheduled three workplace safety workshops for farmers, particularly those with grain-handling facilities, the Purdue Exponent university newspaper reported.
The workshops, funded by a grant from the U.S. Occupational Safety and Health Administration, will focus on:
- Preventing grain dust combustion and explosions.
- Handling and unloading grain.
- Industrial hazards and engineering controls.
Those who complete the course will receive certificates of completion.
Purdue has scheduled three workshops:
- 3-8 p.m. June 22 at the Northeast-Purdue Agricultural Center in Columbia City.
- 1-5 p.m. June 27 at the Southern Indiana Purdue Agricultural Center in Dubois.
- 1-5 p.m. Aug. 17 at the Jasper County Fairgrounds in Rensselaer.
Kingsly Ambrose, assistant professor in Purdue’s Department of Agricultural and Biological Engineering, and Chad Martin, Purdue’s extension specialist, will co-host the workshops.
