A nearly unanimous state Supreme Court reversed an appellate court decision to dismiss a case charging the Building Industry Association of Washington with illegal campaigning.
BIAW spent nearly $8 million in 2008 as part of a failed effort to get Dino Rossi, a Republican, elected governor. Christine Gregoire, a Democrat, won the election with 53% of the vote. In 2010, BIAW paid $242,000 in penalties to settle a lawsuit with the state for not reporting the political expenditures on Rossi's campaign.
