Rand Researchers Say Evidence Supports Rationale for PTSD Presumption

Researchers for Rand Corp. said their review of first responder claims for post-traumatic stress disorder found evidence supporting the rationale for California lawmakers to create a presumption that the condition arose out of employment for first responders. Looking at claim data from years before the PTSD presumption created by Senate Bill 542 took effect in 2020, Rand found both peace officers and firefighters filed more claims for the condition and that those claims were more frequently denied when compared to other workers.
