Travelers Net Income Up 6% in 3rd Quarter as Premiums Grow

The Travelers Companies reported net income of $919 million during the third quarter, a 6% increase from the $864 million reported during the same period of 2013. Travelers reported net written premiums of $6.03 billion in the third quarter, up 6% from the $5.71 billion reported in the prior-year quarter. Its combined ratio increased slightly to 90.9% from 88.9% in the third quarter of 2013. For the first nine months of 2014, Travelers reported net income of $2.65 billion, down 1% from $2.69 billion in the first nine months of 2013.
