Kevin Moore, 40, was charged with fraud for claiming he was unable to work while allegedly running his own T-shirt business, according to a local news report.

Moore reportedly injured his back while on duty about a year ago and was granted temporary total disability. But Gallagher Bassett Investigative Services put him under surveillance and allegedly found that the trooper was engaged in strenuous physical activity over several months while operating the silk-screening company.

Moore was arrested Wednesday by inspectors from the State’s Attorney's office. He was released on a written promise to appear Thursday in Superior Court in Hartford.

The State Police put Moore, an officer since 2004, on an administrative assignment while the case is pending, the news outlet reported.

“Based upon the findings of the internal affairs investigation, he will be held accountable for his non-police-related actions accordingly,” a statement from the police said. “Preliminarily, in accordance with State Police Rules and Regulations, the off-duty conduct alleged to have occurred by [Trooper First Class] Moore has severe consequences.”
