A Republican-backed Senate formulary bill that cleared its first House hurdle Tuesday still faces potential opposition from a Democratic governor and a lack of votes to override his veto in either chamber.
Senate Bill 936 passed the House Labor and Industry Committee by a 15-11 vote, with all Republican aye votes and 11 Democratic nays.
The bill could reach the House of Representatives for a full floor vote by the first week in February, committee Chairman Rep. Rob Kauffman, R-Franklin, said in a telephone interview Wednesday.
