A Texas appellate court overturned a jury verdict and award of $1.84 million to a worker on his claim for injuries sustained while the defendant and his employer were performing work as independent contractors on an oil and gas well.

Facts: Ramon Torres worked for Talon Tools & Testing. Dallas Production hired Talon to conduct hydrostatic-pressure testing on the tubing going into an oil and gas well that it owned. Dallas Production also hired Well-Pro Services LP to assist in the removal of tubing.
