The Travelers Cos. said a review of more than 1.2 million work comp claims from 2017 to 2021 revealed that overexertion was the most frequent cause of injury, but slips, trips and falls were the top drivers of severe claims.
Travelers said 29% of claims it analyzed were caused by overexertion. Slips, trips and falls accounted for 23% of claims, followed by being struck by an object with 12% of claims. Motor vehicle accidents and getting caught in or between hazards both accounted for 5% of the claims Travelers reviewed.
