California employers on average paid 7% less for coverage in the first half of 2018 than they did in 2017, according to a new report by the Workers’ Compensation Insurance Rating Bureau.
The average charged rate of $2.35 per $100 of payroll through June 30, 2018, compares to the average charged rate of $2.52 employers paid last year. The WCIRB noted in a statement announcing the publication of its second quarter 2018 Insurer Experience Report that the average charged rate through the first six months of the year is 21% lower than the recent peak of $2.97 in 2014.
