California lawmakers will consider legislation next year that would give workers in the on-demand economy collective bargaining rights, according to a report by the Los Angeles Times.
People working for companies such as Uber currently operate in something of a murky area. Workers say in a number of lawsuits that they're employees, and therefore entitled to workers' compensation coverage, unemployment, minimum wage and other labor law protections. The on-demand companies, however, say that the workers are independent contractors.
