The Georgia Supreme Court this week ruled that an attorney facing her fifth disciplinary hearing needs a stiffer punishment than a public reprimand for abandoning her representation of an injured worker.
Although the Georgia State Bar and a special master both recommended a simple rebuke for attorney Denise F. Hemmann, the court rejected her petition requesting such a sanction for her admitted misconduct.
In January 2015, Hemmann had entered into an agreement to represent a client in pursuing workers’ compensation benefits and civil damages from a car accident.
