Pork Plant Workers Claim Retaliation for Filing Work Comp Claims

Monday, April 25, 2016 | 0

Nine former workers for a Missouri pork-processing plant have filed suit against their former employer, charging that they were fired in retaliation for filing workers' compensation claims, the News-Press newspaper reported Friday.

Former employee Kevin Kelley first filed suit against Triumph Foods in St. Joseph in November. Since then, eight other employees have joined the civil action, the newspaper said.

Triumph Foods, which the newspaper described as the second-largest pork processing plant in the United States, has denied any wrongdoing.

The News-Press said the case had been assigned to Buchanan County Circuit Judge Weldon Judah, but attorney Garret Tuck with the Montee Law Firm in Kansas City filed a motion seeking appointment of another judge. The case was transferred to Circuit Judge Daniel Kellogg.
