The New York Metropolitan Transit Authority Board voted unanimously Wednesday morning to provide an unprecedented $500,000 in death benefits to families of transit workers killed by the COVID-19 respiratory disease.
Board members also said the number of subway and bus workers who have died from the disease has risen to 83, up from 50 in less than a week.
