The U.S. Food and Drug Administration on Friday approved the first generic version of Narcan nasal spray, a drug used to reverse opioid overdose.
The naloxone hydrochloride nasal spray does not require assembly and is sprayed into one nostril while the patient is lying on his or her back, and may be repeated if necessary, the FDA said in announcing the approval.
“This product ... is easily administered by anyone, even those without medical training,” the agency said.
