One of the world's largest steel producers, the Pittsburgh-based United States Steel Corp., exposed seven workers to asbestos at its headquarters, the federal workplace safety agency found.
The Occupational Safety and Health Administration fined U.S. Steel $170,000 for 10 violations, both repeat and serious, after an employee complaint led to an investigation.
Five workers handled asbestos-containing packing material in February, OSHA inspectors were told during their March inspection. The inspection also revealed that two employees had handled an asbestos-containing pipe.
