Workers’ compensation and auto insurance cost-containment firm Medata hired Brett J. Drexelius as its executive vice president of growth.

Drexelius will focus on accelerating the company’s growth and developing national sales processes, Medata said in a statement. He will also oversee sales leaders of the company’s product lines, including bill review, utilization review, document management and fee negotiations.

He brings to the position nearly 20 years of business development experience in the workers’ compensation and health care industries, Medata said. Most recently, Drexelius was chief sales officer of Optum Workers’ Compensation and Auto No-Fault. He previously held similar roles with Helios, PMSI and Coventry Health Care.

Drexelius earned a bachelor’s degree in information systems from Canisius College, a Master of Business Administration degree from Villanova University, and a Certified Healthcare Executive credential from the American College of Healthcare Executives.

He serves on several boards, including the Core Funders Board of the Workers Compensation Research Institute; the board for the Center for Creative Arts, a nonprofit serving special-needs adults; and the board for the Seaver Autism Center for Research and Treatment at Mount Sinai in New York City.
