Court Revives Civil Suit Over Worker's Fatal Heart Attack

The South Carolina Court of Appeals overturned a grant of summary judgment dismissing a lawsuit against an employer and its in-house nurses, alleging that they failed to provide adequate treatment to a worker with symptoms of a heart attack before she died. Samel Ragin worked for Pilgrim’s Pride Corp. at a chicken processing plant. While at work in November 2017, Ragin went to the in-house nurses' station and reported chest pains and shortness of breath. Ragin returned to work and was later discovered unconscious in the restroom. She was pronounced dead at the hospital. ...
