An Oklahoma police officer said he was injured at one police department, began collecting benefits, then went to work for another town, according to fraud charges filed this week.

Bryon Gordon, who also was convicted last year of sexual assault on a mentally challenged person, told investigators that he never meant to break the law, the local TV news reported.

“My intent was not to defraud or cheat anybody out of anything. I had to pay for my insurance,” Gordon said.

After leaving the Lindsay, Oklahoma, police department because no light-duty work was available after his arm injury in 2016, he went to work for the town of Paoli, authorities said. He allegedly collected benefits for about four months.
