Legislature Gives Final Nod to PTSD Bill for Responders

If Democratic Gov. John Bel Edwards agrees, Louisiana will be the second state this year to enact a law creating a rebuttable presumption that mental stress is work-related for most first responders. The Legislature last week passed the final version of Senate Bill 107, and the bill is now awaiting the governor's signature. An earlier version of the measure included coverage for sheriffs and deputies, but that provision was left out of at the request of the Louisiana Sheriffs' Association.
