California carriers paid less for both opioids and compound drugs as use of the medicines decreased significantly in the first year after the state's prescription formulary took effect, according to a pair of new reports from the Workers’ Compensation Insurance Rating Bureau.
“While pharmaceutical costs had been declining prior to the implementation of the formulary, the decline accelerated during 2018, suggestive of the drug formulary impact,” according a slide presented during a webinar the WCIRB hosted Wednesday.
