Researchers at the University of Pennsylvania have developed a model that could improve insight into how injury in one part of the body can lead to increased strain on another.
The research is the first to convert the body’s entire network of bones and muscles into a comprehensive mathematical model, according to a news release from the university.
The model treats bones as “balls” and muscles as “springs.” Even in its theoretical form, the model shows how forces are transmitted throughout the musculoskeletal system.
