Monday, August 27, 2018 | 0

Wyoming was the most dangerous state for workers in 2016, as ranked by fatal occupational injury rate, followed by Alaska and Montana, according to an analysis of federal statistics by Business Insider.

The lowest fatality rate for U.S. for workers in 2016 was in the District of Columbia, followed by Connecticut and Rhode Island.

The analysis compared states in terms of their rate of fatal occupational injuries per 100,000 full-time workers in 2016. The data came from the Bureau of Labor Statistics' Census of Fatal Occupational Injuries.

Wyoming had 34 work-related deaths in 2016, a fatality rate of 12.3 per 100,000 workers. At the low end, District of Columbia had five worker fatalities and a rate of 1.4 per 100,000 that year.

States with a heavier concentration of extractive industries such as mining, oil drilling and forestry tended to have higher fatal injury rates, Business Insider noted.
