House Passes Bill to Revoke Medical Licenses from Convicted Fraudsters

The Michigan House of Representatives has passed legislation to permanently revoke the licenses of medical providers convicted of fraud. Current state law allows for potential license reinstatement beginning five years after a fraud conviction. The bill, HB 5842, passed the House on Thursday by a vote of 542 yeas to 107 nays. The measure was sponsored by Rep. Peter Pettalia (R-Presque Isle). A spokesman for Pettalia told WorkCompCentral that the bill is now awaiting a hearing before the Senate Health Policy Committee.
