The North Carolina Industrial Commission’s continued crackdown on businesses that don’t carry required workers’ compensation insurance has yielded more than a half-million dollars in penalties so far in fiscal year 2014-15, according to a commission release.
The commission launched the initiative early last year. In fiscal year 2013-14, the commission assessed and collected about $678,000 in civil penalties, 43% more than the collections in the previous fiscal year and an increase of 621% from fiscal year 2011-12.
