SAN FRANCISCO -- California injured workers have just as many doctors to choose from as they have in the past decade, if not more, according to preliminary research announced Thursday by the California Workers' Compensation Institute.
The CWCI's chief researcher, Alex Swedlow, used information from the industry group's database to show that medical providers are not fleeing the system. One example: In 1996, 98% of workers lived within 30 miles of three physicians who were willing to treat injured workers. In 2005, the percentage was exactly the same.
