UnumProvident - 10% Drive 66% of Disability Costs

Yesterday, UnumProvident (NYSE: UNM) released findings of a comprehensive employer research study providing evidence that 10 percent of employees -- those who file occupational or non-occupational disability claims -- drive 55 percent of employee medical costs and up to 66 percent of all medical, disability and workers' compensation costs combined.(1) Faced with rising healthcare costs and health insurance premiums that are expected to increase an average of 13 to 15 percent this year -- the steepest increase in a decade -- employers are looking for ways to reduce their associated costs.(2) ...
