VotersInjuredatWork.org announced Monday that the California state Senate passed a bill last week that would force insurers to pay penalities if they do not pay awarded benefits.
SB 1023 by Sen. Joe Dunn, D-Santa Ana,
would provide injured workers $2,000 when insurers force the injured
worker back to court to get the insurer or employer to pay or provide
care or compensation that has already been awarded. Insurers would pay a
$5,000 amount for repeated refusals to comply with authorized care and
treatment awards. The bill passed by a vote of 25 to 15, with not one
