A check of the South Florida roofing industry shows that fewer than half of the contractors are carrying workers' compensation insurance, the Sun-Sentinel reported last week as Hurricane Dennis bore down on the Panhandle.
The Fort Lauderdale Sun-Sentinel reported that roofing contractors -- many of whom are from out of state -- swarmed into Florida after last season's hurricanes and found work repairing storm-damaged homes. These contractors aren't bothering to buy insurance for their workers, which leaves employees without income or medical care in the event of a fall or injury.
