Changes to Illinois’ workers’ compensation laws proposed by the state Senate may not be enough for Republican Gov. Bruce Rauner, but may be too much for House Speaker Michael Madigan, a Chicago Democrat.
The Democratic-controlled state Senate voted 36-19 Tuesday night to approve a substitute workers' compensation reform package that addresses the "causation" standard that is a key part of Rauner's agenda. The Senate had scrapped a bill passed by the House of Representatives, HB 1287, on June 4.
