SOQUEL, CA - August 2, 2022 - Kids' Chance of California (KCOCA), a non-profit education scholarship provider to the children of California workers that have been fatally or seriously injured on the job, announces that it is on track to reach $2M in scholarship awards in by 2025.

COVID-19 has had a notable impact on the US economy. This has translated into a noticeable decrease in received donations by many non-profit organizations, including Kids' Chance of California.  Notwithstanding, the Board of Directors at Kids' Chance of California have worked tirelessly to ensure student needs are being met. For the 2022-2023 school year, KCOCA awarded 34 scholarships adding up to $219,564.04 to students throughout the state of California. The Board of Directors changed its methodology for awarding scholarships in 2022-2023 by increasing the amount of each award due to a decrease in the number of applicants received.

To help keep the organization on track to meet its awards goal by 2025, the board has engaged in new and innovative ways to raise funds. This includes seeking "Charity of Choice" assignments for sponsored golf tournaments, walk/run wellness events, and industry conferences. Additional avenues for fundraising include annual restaurant day, holiday popcorn and brownie sales, and trivia night with a portion of proceeds from these events going to KCOCA.

Kids' Chance of California's campaign to bring awareness to this scholarship opportunity available to children of injured workers, including outreach to over 6,000 high school counselors throughout California, generated 4 new students who were awarded scholarships for the 2022-2023 school year. We are pleased to report that 30 of the 34 awardees this year are re-applicants from last year continuing their education with KCOCA's support.

Kids' Chance of California's President, Kristen Chavez stated, "We are extremely proud of meeting the needs of the students that received scholarship awards for the 2022-2023 school year. The loyalty of KCOCA's giving partners, and the involvement of individual industry professionals volunteering their time and resources to raise funds, have been to ensure KCOCA continues on track to meet our giving goal of $2M by 2025. We'd like to extend a challenge to all who work in the workers' compensation space to become involved in KCOCA's fundraising and student outreach efforts this year. We can, AND WILL, succeed in reaching our goal. Let's raise more money for more kids!"
