The U.S. Department of Labor and the Rhode Island Department of Labor and Training have signed a Memorandum of Understanding to protect employees from being misclassified as independent contractors and other nonemployee statuses, according to a department press release.
The memorandum, signed last Thursday, lasts for three years and allows both departments to share training information, exchange resources and coordinate law enforcement investigations to combat fraud.
