Judge Gives Go Ahead for Penalties in Immigrant Case

A Rhode Island Workers' Compensation Court judge has approved plans by the state Department of Labor and Training to pursue a $150,000 fine against a tree service owner in connection with a 2008 injury to a Mexican immigrant.The Providence Journal reported that Judge Janette A. Bertness last Friday granted the state agency's petition to collect a fine plus interest imposed on William J. Gorman Jr., owner of Billy G's Tree Service in Warwick, R.I.A pretrial hearing in the case is set for July 10.
