Manufacturer Cited for Hazardous Chemicals Exposure

Welders and grinders were exposed to hazardous levels of chemicals and deafening noise levels without hearing protection at a Springfield, Missouri, storage tank manufacturer, resulting in proposed penalties of $74,000, according to the U.S. Occupational Safety and Health Administration.  Abec Inc. was cited on July 13 for 12 serious safety violations that were found during a routine inspection.  Inspectors found that the company had exposed one employee to dangerous levels of hexavalent chromium and failed to implement engineering controls to reduce and monitor exposure levels...
