Department Aims to Change Unfair Claims Settlement Rules

The Kentucky Department of Workers' Claims will hold a public hearing next month to discuss proposed changes to regulations designed to prohibit unfair claims settlement practices. The department can fine insurers that fail to properly notify injured workers when and why a claim was denied or threaten to appeal in order to compel a smaller settlement amount. The proposed amendments would update the rules to reflect the correct name and structure of the department and change the title of the head of the department from director to commissioner.
