The Ohio Supreme Court ordered a lower court's judge to give up jurisdiction over a city’s suit against the state Bureau of Workers' Compensation challenging its premium calculation methods.
In 2013, the cities of Cleveland and Parma separately filed suit against the Bureau of Workers’ Compensation in the Cuyahoga County Common Pleas Court. Both alleged that the bureau's former premium calculation method resulted in excessive charges for non-group-rated employers.
Cleveland brought its action individually; however, Parma filed a class action.
