A recently amended bill would allow, but not explicitly require, California cities and counties to provide workers’ compensation benefits to peace officers injured while outside of the state.
Assemblyman Tom Daly, D-Anaheim, introduced AB 1749 in January following reports that Orange County supervisors denied claims filed by deputies who said they were injured during the Oct. 1 shooting in Las Vegas.
The county said it felt that the Labor Code explicitly prohibited coverage for the injuries because they occurred out of state.
