An “overwhelming theme” in treating patients for chronic pain is to keep them as physically active as possible, according to an American College of Occupational and Environmental Medicine treatment guideline released on Monday.
The emphasis on physical activity isn’t new, according to Dr. Kurt Hegmann, the ACOEM guideline’s editor-in-chief. But many medical providers aren’t aware of the recommendation or haven’t received training on how to incorporate activity into a treatment plan.
