The 10 coal-mining deaths reported since the beginning of this year account for the lowest fatality rates in a number of years, according to new data released by the U.S. Department of Labor.
The youngest worker was a 24-year-old continuous mine machine operator, Arthur “D. J.” Gelentser III, who died in February of last year after being crushed by machinery, according to investigation notes.
