Jim L. Ridling Named New Insurance Commissioner

Alabama Gov. Bob Riley appointed Jim L. Ridling as Alabama's new insurance commissioner, effective Sept. 15. Ridling, who is past president and chief executive officer of Southern Guaranty and is one of the founders of River Bank and Trust, took over the position from Walter Bell. Bell, who was Alabama's first African-American insurance commissioner, resigned from his post effective Tuesday to become chairman of Swiss Re America Holding Corp.
