A medical biller convicted of stealing $1.1 million from surgeons who treated injured workers was sentenced to probation for five years and ordered to pay $300,000 in restitution, the New York Attorney General and State Inspector General offices said in a joint statement.
Amrish Patel, 62, pleaded guilty to one count of insurance fraud in the second degree Sept. 9. He previously paid additional restitution to the doctors in a private civil settlement, according to the statement.
