A Florida House of Representatives committee has given its OK to a bill that would allow first responders to receive workers’ compensation benefits for post-traumatic stress disorder and other mental injuries.
Florida is one of about a dozen states that forbids employees from collecting workers’ compensation benefits for work-related emotional ailments unless they’ve also sustained physical injury.
House Bill 227 would change that, roughly a year after another bill tried and failed to do the same thing.
