Workers’ compensation could buy ecstasy for first responders with post-traumatic stress disorder if the U.S. Food and Drug Administration approves the use of the drug before the end of 2025, under a bill moving through the Arizona Legislature.
Senate Bill 1677, which is currently awaiting a third and final vote in the state House of Representatives, would mandate work comp coverage for firefighters and peace officers with PTSD.
The bill, by Sen. David M. Gowan, R-Sierra Vista, would also pave the way for work comp to provide MDMA, commonly known as ecstasy, as a treatment protocol.
